Spiral: From the Book of Saw, 2021 – ★★

What if someone obsessed with the Saw franchise films (read Jigsaw killer murders) and 80’s cop thrillers made a film that was a bastard child of the both. Voila. A cop-killer on the loose is easier to digest than a nihilist judging you for your sins willy nilly.

I’d perhaps have been a little happier if they just called it out for just that with a bit of Scream-like tongue-and-cheek though, that may have allowed me forgive the predictability of this.

Without spoilers, I’ll just say I called it 10 minutes in, hoping to be surprised that it can’t be my first hunch, but the never even had me question it once. That’s just poor. Basically, not enough red-herrings and playing with the viewers expectation.

So we have some more torture-porn gadgetry & limbs/bodies mutilated in another bland been-there-done-that film. All the best convincing me to watch a sequel.
