Wrath of Man, 2021 – ★★★

When Guy Ritchie decides to take Statham in a role tailor made for him, half his work is done. For the rest, we have plenty of inspiration from genre-films like Payback, Reservoir Dogs, Assault on Precinct 13, Rambo and these are just flicks that are rolling off the tongue instantly. We’ve got someone who clearly […]

Those Who Wish Me Dead, 2021 – ★★½

Starting a film with someone having a bad dream about their trauma should have set my expectations to average or below, but oddly, it’s the title that made me expect more. What we get is a functional bad-guys chase good guys to a small town where the local folk step up affair, where the novelty […]

Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai, 2021 – ★

Frankly, I shouldn’t have bothered. I have no idea why I watched this, never mind seeing it through. It’s terrible. Here-on is just me trying to convince myself why I saw this. Some years ago, I saw Bharat and then dipped into the original it was adapted from. Ode to my father is such an […]

Atari: Game Over, 2014 – ★★★

I think it may take a bit of geek DNA to appreciate the drive and passion that this oozes, but in a way, I felt “these are my people”. A rare non-fic that I wanted to see, as opposed to being coerced to. source https://letterboxd.com/jun6lee/film/atari-game-over/

The Hidden Face, 2011 – ★★★½

Didn’t realise it for the first 20 minutes, but I’ve seen the Hindi remake of this, so a little was lost in the impact of the reveals, but nonetheless, it does a great job of creating scenes of suspense and moral dilemmas and juicing them for. the drama. A worthy watch. For those curious, the […]

Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse, 2021 – ★★½

All rather familiar. They manage to get a set-piece or two in which shows some creativity, but all-in-all felt like a “cashing-in on a franchise” fare. The marvellous post-credit just sealed that gut feeling. Expect more. We can only hope it’s a franchise that betters over time or dies fast. Time will tell. source https://letterboxd.com/jun6lee/film/tom-clancys-without-remorse/

Mortal Kombat, 2021 – ★★½

This being the first in the franchise that I’ve felt compelled to watch was a loopy fruit basket. Ridiculous on so many levels, yet strangely enjoyable. One of those rare apples which falls under that “so bad it’s good” umbrella, although I’m sure Isaac Newton would be confused by the physics of it all. source […]

Ajeeb Daastaans, 2021 – ★★★½

Worked on this myself, so this may come with some bias, but I think the intent of a contrasting anthology has come out well. From talking to the people around me online and otherwise, have found that when asked to pick a favourite, it’s been quite varied. So, mission accomplished. 🙂 source https://letterboxd.com/jun6lee/film/ajeeb-daastaans/
