Starbucks Card

Caffeine O’ Caffeine – My bitter alkaloid, my white crystalline molecule of glory, C8H10N4O2. *licks-lips* Said to be usually derived from coffee or tea: used in medicine chiefly as a nervous system stimulant, you may know me to be somewhat of an addict of the “caffeine high”.

Favouring coffee over tea for my fix and regular patron of the corporate providers of it, naturally I subscribed myself to what the average sensible person may call a cheap gimmick. The new “Starbucks card” is a slick looking credit-card sized ‘card’ (made of plastic). Logical innovation right there!

The great feature of the card is that you can top it up with ChiChing $$$ and then use the card as opposed to cash to pay for your coffee (or whatever else people buy there).

You can also register your card online at starbucks.co.uk and check your balance at any point you like, like a bank. The registering process allows you to subscribe to (or not) what the average person may call ‘junk mail’ or in some instances ‘spam’, but really it’s simply a way for the corporation to make a personal connection with the average joe, with advertisements and ‘special’ offers, that save Joeys $$$ money $$$, as long as they spend enough. This is NOT a gimmick, the corporations are offering us a gesture of goodwill, who are we to decline them?

I’ve actually found that this system does have a small use for the consumer which I only noticed this morning. It does make transactions a lot quicker, no pin entry (credit cards) or faffing about with change, just swipe & go! .. Nifty indeed.

Yep. From the starbuck website:
Starbucks Card can currently be used in the UK, US, Canada, Australia and Thailand – with more countries coming online all the time.

Nifty. I hear tell they’ve had cards like this in the US for some time – good to know they’ve finally introduced them here. I wonder if you can use the UK ones in the US (and vice versa)?
